skinny

here's another of my paranoia. i think my girls are too skinny. their last check up they were at about 50percentaile of their weight. that is 50% of kids their age way more than they do. while they are i think about 90 something percentile of their height. i ahev always know they r pretty tall for their age. peopel always pass them for 4 yr olds when they were 2. anyways they are going to be three nxt mth. i ususally haev a hard tiem shopping for them cos they 4 skinny but tall. the size 2 clothing are big in the waist but short in lenght. size 3s n fours are way big in the waist n lenght is ok. so unless the skirt or pants come with adjustable waists or pull strings, they r no good. of course u won't beleive how hard it is to find tow of the same sizes let alone three. i don't know why most times i find things i like i can only find one pair. u know what i should probably start a clothing line for multiples. hmm.

oh yes oh! i am one of those that ensures her kids wear d same outfit. whats the point of being a mulitple if u can't go all out n be cute like that. infact i think some people trying to do the different thing or just couldn't get the same outfits all in the same color got me maybe two in same color, one different or all same outfit different colors, i regifted them oh! yes i am that petty.

(the whole weight) thing doesn't help that my girls flat out refuse to eat their vegetables. sometimes its hard enough getting them to eat but veges. forget it. even if i make rice with mixed vegetables, they will sit there n pick out every little peice of vege in it b4 eating the rice or simply just refuse to eat it. any ides on how to get kids to eat their veges. as an adult i know i have struggled with eating balanced meals but i have been trying to make sure the girls get all their needed nutirents but i always end up throwing away my well cooked veges in the trash after each meal.

oh yeah another thing they still suck their fingers!!! i just don't know how to get them off it. well while we r on the how do i's, how do i get them totally potty trained. i mean they r potty trained up to an extent. during the day they go to the bathroom them selves. my problem is atnite n when they take naps in the afternoon. i think by three they should have been totally trained right?

any ideas r totally welcomed.

My pediatrician friend says those percentile figures are just a guide and as long as children eat regular healthy meals, they are fine. Especially as they are girls, you don't want to make too much of a big deal of food i.e. good girls finish their food etc... I call my son "Skinny Beany" because at almost 3, he can still get away with wearing age 18-24 mths. I'll send you some vege recipes later, meanwhile, get them to help you in the kitchen, they're usually more excited to eat what they've helped make e.g. pizzas, soup, pies etc...

Weight - not something to worry about - especially as they are multiples. I've heard that multiples are smaller but catch up eventually. Weight can also be genetic... as long as they are energetic and happy, there's nothing to worry about. Just don't make a big deal about it! If they refuse to eat, just take the food away. If they come to ask for food later... give them the same thing again. No alternatives.

As for eating veg... my daughter also didn't eat veg. Then I started to cut up carrots and cucumber and sweet [eppers into strips, bought loads of healthy dips (houmous, quacomole, mayo) and anytime she wanted a snack that's what I'd give her! No biscuits and no sweets. Then I gave her cut up veggies to ply with when she's playing "house" and ffeding her dollies. Eventually she'd come and ask for more food for her dollies and when I asked what happened to the last set... she'd eaten it! So now I ask if she wants some "dolly food" and she shouts "YES!!" and eats it all up. It's also important for kids to see you eating veg too... she loves to eat mushrooms off her dads plate... even though she always says "I hate mushrooms".

She is also wet and in nappies at night. So kids are fully dry at night by 3 or 4... some aren't. It's one of those things they do for themselves. My doctor has said that the aim is to get them dry in the day... everything else is a bonus! Some very well adjusted kids are still in nappies at night at 7yrs old! So don't worry. I'm sure by around 4 (the average for girls) they will be having more dry mights than wet... just put them in the nappies, make sure they toilet before bed (do not restrict drinks in evenings yet - they are too young for that!) and ask them to wake you in the night if they want to go during the night. Then when you get 5 full nights of dry nappies, take them away altogether! I'm not even fretting abou tit at all... she gets up during the night to go to the toilet sometimes. Others, she wee so much it soaks thru... so we are just waiting!

dzzzy babe, thanks soo much i can totally use those ideas. i am excited already cos i can see it working. they love to give their play dolls food. i was just gettign worried cos half the time its a battle to get them to eat. someother times they do eat with a very good appetite. then somethimes what they have loved to eat, they refuse later. but thanks for sharign your experience. i think i am the first out of my close friends that has kids that age so we can't swap mommy stories like that. i guess i am glad i haev my blog buddies. withthe potty training, they r dry during the day n they go them selves wiv out any assistance. just wanted to know what to be lookign out for as in time lines. thabnks again
